The Sick Rose

O Rose thou art sick.

The invisible worm,

That flies in the night

In the howling storm:

Has found out thy bed

Of crimson joy:

And his dark secret love

Does thy life destroy.

My POV:

The poems open introducing the sick rose. Sick as in unwell. While the second line introduces

the flying invisible worm. I don't know what kind of worm is this. Then the next stanza continues tackling about the worm. Here, the worm found out the colored crimson bed of the rose itself. Now in the seventh line, the author used the pronoun ''his'' as the substitute for the word ''worm''. Meaning to say, the worm is the boy in the poem while the rose is the girl. This is their story.

Setting: In the crimson bed of the rose.

Characters: The Rose (girl); the worm (boy)

Symbols: metaphor and personification

Theme: Violence--in the sense that the rose died because of the worm's love

Love--in the sense that the worm is in love with the rose

The Lady and Her Five Suitors

The story is about a beautiful woman who's lover is in prison. She did everything just to get him husband out of the prison. She used her wit, her beauty, and brain. She actually went to the people who could help her on her mission. In real life, many would represent this kind of woman. A wise and a strong woman fighting for love. The one that would find a way even though it's already difficult. The one who would tricked people just to get one person back to her life. I've had read some stories related to this. But sad to say that I already forgot the titles. Truly, when you love someone, you will do everything just to help him or her without even thinking the situation itself.

Naming of Parts

This is a poem about military. It tackles about a head officer giving instructions to the novices of the group. He is teaching them how to properly use the gun. The beginners will familiarized each distinct part of the gun. The characters here were all men. In real life, it is really happening not just in military but in all groups that we have on this earth. As beginners, we have to be informed by the old members what are the things we are going to do under their law.

The author, Reed is an Englishman who served during World War II. Maybe he experienced this.
